Announcement of the Closure of the Legionaries of Christ Community in Chicago

With profound gratitude for the blessings of the last 22 years, the Legionaries of Christ announce the closure of their community in Chicago, effective June 30, 2025. Since the community was established in 2002 many Legionaries of Christ, together with lay members of Regnum Christi and the Consecrated Women of Regnum Christi, have devoted themselves to evangelization and service to the Church in the Chicago area. Their lasting impact includes the founding of Everest Academy in Lemont, their chaplaincy at East Lake Academy in Lake Forest, and the Lumen Institute’s Chicago chapter.

This decision flows from a year-long analysis of the Legionary communities in the North American territory and is driven by the goal to better enable the Legionaries to live and serve in healthy, vibrant communities.  The Legionaries of Christ remain fully committed to collaborating with Regnum Christi’s Chicago locality and the Lumen Insititute and will work together with the Regnum Christi Federation to ensure a healthy transition and continued support for the needs of Regnum Christi and the mission in this region.

The Consecrated Women of Regnum Christi will maintain their community in Chicago.

The Congregation will continue to serve Everest Academy and East Lake Academy. Moving forward, chaplaincy for these schools will be provided by the Legionary community at Sacred Heart Apostolic School in Rolling Prairie, Indiana.

We are deeply grateful for all those who have supported the Legionaries of Christ and our mission in Chicago over the years, including the local Church, and we remain committed to serving the Church and living the mission of Regnum Christi in years to come.
