Father Gabriel Abascal Castro, LC, was born on April 17, 1980, in Mexico City and was ordained a priest on December 12, 2011, at the Basilica of St. John Lateran in Rome. He entered the Legionaries of Christ novitiate in Monterrey in 2000 and professed his perpetual vows in 2008.
He studied Philosophy and Theology at the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum (APRA) in Rome, earning a bachelor’s degree in both fields. His formation took place at various centers of the congregation in Mexico, Spain, Italy, and the United States. Since his ordination, he has served in formation, spiritual direction, and pastoral leadership.
Currently, Fr. Gabriel serves as the director of the men’s sections in Hermosillo and Obregón, as well as the Local RC Director for Hermosillo, and he is in charge of youth ministry for Regnum Christi in the Northern Territory of Mexico. He has served as director of the youth sections in Monterrey and Hermosillo, as a formation instructor in Regnum Christi schools, and as a collaborator in vocation promotion. His ministry is distinguished by his pastoral closeness, his leadership in working with lay people, and his drive for the apostolic growth of the Regnum Christi sections in northern Mexico.
