Vocational Testimony
Fifteen minutes before my diaconal ordination and I’m more nervous than a groom before his wedding. I am restless. At breakfast, I only managed to swallow half a doughnut, and with great difficulty.
Now, already dressed at dawn I am sweating and apprehensive. Who knows exactly why. I line up behind for the procession. The organ begins to sound. The last thing I expected to happen to me- I received a calming notion that left no more room for nerves. In an inexplicable way, I lived the Mass of my diaconal ordination with joy and much confidence. It is a very good image of my whole vocation, of these almost fifteen years of preparation to be a priest in the Legion.
God asks me for things that surpass me. I say yes (when I’m doing well) and He makes things happen unexpectedly (for me, not for him), surprising and wonderful. How do I put into words an unexpected call of fifteen years of struggles, defeats turning into victories, and relationships that mark life forever? How to interpret in a unitary way everything that has happened to me trying to follow Jesus on this path? Perhaps the best way is to see everything in the light of the paschal mystery, and also experiences of accompanying Jesus in the silence of the tomb, too. I Feel resurrected by an unexpected power that surpasses my understanding and planning: if I’m honest, every day. It has not been a straight path. It has not been what I expected. It was not what I would have wanted. But it has been all with Him. He has never abandoned me, not for a second. That’s why it all makes sense. It’s all part of who I am: a child of God and hopefully a brother for all.
Pray for me.
