Bequests

Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Frielink met some seminarians from the Legionaries of Christ many years ago in California. When their son, James Frielink, sent a gift from their family trust, he was kind enough to tell us this story. “Everything that was good in their lives came from my Dad’s association with the Catholic Church – his education, his wife, and their four kids. Mom became a Catholic when they married. Both were devout and were active in the Church. They simply wanted to give back to the Church that had given them so much. And now they have.”

Making a bequest in support of the Regnum Christi Federation, or one of its institutions (Legionaries of Christ, Consecrated Women of Regnum Christi or Lay Consecrated Men of Regnum Christi) means that the Christian values which defined your life will live on through your generosity.  As a result of your bequest, seminarians and consecrated women will continue to be prepared to give their lives in service to Christ and the Church, and you will be remembered daily in our prayers.

How a bequest works

A bequest is one of the simplest gifts to make. With the help of an attorney, you can include language in your will or trust specifying a gift to be made in support of either the Regnum Christi Federation, the Legionaries of Christ, the Consecrated Women of Regnum Christi  or the Lay Consecrated Men of Regnum Christi as part of your estate plan, or you can make a bequest using a beneficiary designation form.

Here are some of the ways to leave a bequest:

  • Include a bequest to us in your will or revocable trust.
  • Designate us as a full, partial or contingent beneficiary of your retirement account (IRA, 401(k), 403(b) or pension).
  • Name us as a beneficiary of your life insurance policy.

A bequest may be made in several ways

  • Percentage bequest– Make a gift of a percentage of your estate.
  • Specific bequest– Make a gift of a specific dollar amount or a specific asset.
  • Residual bequest– Make a gift from the balance or residue of your estate.

Sample language for leaving a bequest

or, for a specific amount,

I give and devise to the Legion of Christ, Inc.  (Tax ID #06-0923895), located in Roswell, GA, the sum of $___________ (or asset) to be used for its general support (or for the support the Regnum Christi Movement or the Consecrated Women of Regnum Christi).
