Legionaries Participate in a Meeting Organized by the Dicastery for Culture and Education

Legionary priests working in universities in Mexico, Spain, and Italy were part of a meeting on culture and education organized by the Holy See.

On November 23-24, 2023, the Dicastery for Culture and Education organized a meeting for university chaplains with representatives of Catholic universities from around the world. Those who attended were able to analyze and reflect on the purpose and mission of university ministry and shared best practices with one another.

On November 24, the participants had a Eucharistic concelebration and were subsequently received in a private audience by Pope Francis. Among the Legionaries of Christ who attended the meeting were Father Manuel Reyes, LC, ( Anáhuac Puebla ), Father Jesús Parreño, LC, (European University of Rome), Father Justo Gómez, LC, ( Francisco de Vitoria University), and American Father Michael Baggot, LC, associate professor of  Bioethics at the Pontifical Ateneo Regina Apostolorum  and adjunct professor of theology at the  Catholic Institute of Technology.

The Anáhuac University Network (RUA) was represented by its president, Pepe Mata, who is also rector of the Anáhuac University of Puebla. When greeting the Pope, Pepe Mata showed him a RUA flag asking for his blessing. Also participating in the Meeting were Carmen María Rojo, technical secretary of the International Network of Regnum Christi Universities (RIU) and Fernando Viñado, director of comprehensive training at the Francisco de Vitoria University.

For his part, Father Manuel Reyes, LC, gave the Pope a piece of talavera in the shape of an “A” that represents the first stone of one of the new buildings of one of the Anáhuac universities. Father Manuel asked him if he could keep it in his room so that he could pray for us in our mission to serve the Church.
